Online casino rules in Alberta
Checked October 11, 2026Filed by the Shift Log desk
Rivers Casino & Entertainment Centre on Hardin Street is a land-based casino, and online play in Alberta runs under its own rules. This page sets those rules out and carries no paid links.
How the regulated market works
Alberta has a regulated online gaming market, and two bodies divide the work. The Alberta iGaming Corporation, known as AiGC, manages the market. AGLC is the regulator, with a separate role from AiGC.
For an online operator, operating legally takes two steps. It must complete registration with AGLC. It must also sign an operating agreement with AiGC. Both are required for a legal online operation in the province.
Play Alberta, at PlayAlberta.ca, is the province's own online gaming site. It is run by AGLC, the same body that regulates the market. Revenue from the site goes to the Government of Alberta. Other operators in the market work under the registration and agreement described above.
Checking a site
AiGC keeps a directory of registered iGaming sites at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. Any operator can be looked up there before a reader plays. If an operator is not in the directory, it is not regulated. Approved operators also display the AiGC logo. The directory is the place to confirm what the logo shows.
Location is part of the rules. Registered online operators must make sure only players physically located in Alberta can play. The age rule matches the one for land-based play: the legal gambling age in Alberta is 18. In a casino, staff must check valid government-issued photo ID for anyone who appears to be under 25.
This guide and online play
This guide takes no bets and runs no online casino. Paid links appear only on the home page, each marked Ad, and all lead to one online casino partner. The site earns a commission from them. The partner can change, and inner pages, including this one, carry no paid links.
Any online site, the partner included, can be checked in the AiGC directory. Under AGLC's Self-Exclusion Program, a person chooses Alberta casinos and racing entertainment centres, regulated online gaming, or both. Enrolment is online only, at selfexclusion.ca. Terms of six months, one, two or three years start immediately and cannot be cancelled early.
